I grew up skating since I was very young in New Zealand, getting my first board at 1 under the Christmas tree (albeit a plastic one). I was lucky enough to have uncles that grew up skating through the 80s that taught me how to skate comfortably, though their knowledge around tricks was limited as they surf more than skate. It wasn't until I moved to Australia at age 11 and found the Brisbane skate community that I truly started progressing. My teenage years highlighted that skateboarding is best learned with a hands on approach, as the YouTube videos I tried to learn from couldn't point out ways to improve like someone could in person.

I started skateboarding in 2020 when I was 8 years old. Like a lot of people during COVID, I was looking for something to do. My dad used to skate when he was a teenager, and he was the one who introduced me to the sport. Since then, skateboarding has become a huge part of my life. I love traveling with friends and competing. One of my biggest achievements so far has been competing at the 2025 World Skate Games. I hope to inspire girls to get into skateboarding and enjoy it as much as I do.

My name is Leslie Morrison and I grew up in Adelaide skateboarding in competitions all around Australia and loved every minute I’ve been on the board I started skating because when I was 6 I saw a Nutri Grain add that had skateboarding and I was fascinated I got a Ben 10 Kmart board and tried it once and scrapped my toe going down the drive way and was too scared to try it again Didn’t actually start skating until I was 12 and a family friend was a old school skateboarder and I tried it again. I went down a decent size hill near home and ever since then I’ve been in love with skateboarding and the ways I’ve been able to express my passion in life through skateboarding. Skateboarding has taught me a lot about how to trust myself and love myself Its given me great confidence and also improved my reflexes, spatial awareness, and how to keep pushing through even when you feel like giving up.

Skating has been a massive part of my life and all I want to do is introduce it to more people so they can experience the fun and social aspects of it. When I was around 8 or 9, my brother and I use to play skate 3 and tech deck and then one day him and his friends suggested to just get a real board. My first board was given to me by my sister’s boyfriend at the time and honestly, I wasn’t interested but would still go and have a little roll at the park, but it wasn’t until high school where I met my mate Dan Pitcher (mad skater he rips) and he asked to go for a skate and its history from there. Getting on the train for an hour to skate some Gold Coast skatepark was all a part of the fun. Skating has been nothing but beneficial for my life, mentally, meeting some of my lifelong friends, seeing places I never would’ve gone and of course, landing some dream tricks feels pretty good too. Having been surrounded by all different types of skaters and seeing how different people learn has helped me cater towards different students learning processes.
